Yassine Bounou recalls birthday gesture in farewell to former Al Hilal team-mate Malcom
Yassine Bounou has paid an emotional tribute to former Al Hilal team-mate Malcom after the Brazilian winger completed his move to Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates.
The Morocco goalkeeper used Instagram to thank Malcom for the years they spent together in Saudi Arabia, saying their relationship had developed into a close friendship away from football.
“My friend Malcom, I would like to thank you very much for these years we spent together at Al Hilal,” Bounou wrote.
The goalkeeper added that his time alongside Malcom would remain among the important memories of his career, highlighting the impact their partnership had beyond their work on the pitch.
“Thank you for helping me from the first day and making me feel as if I were part of your family. I will never forget what you did on my birthday,” Bounou said.
His reference to his birthday offered a glimpse into the personal connection between the two players. While they shared the pressures and demands of playing for one of Saudi Arabia’s leading clubs, Bounou’s message made clear that their bond extended well beyond their duties as team-mates.
Malcom joined Al Hilal during a successful period with the club and became part of a squad that included Bounou. He has now moved on to a new challenge with Al Jazira, leaving behind former colleagues with whom he built strong relationships during his time in Saudi Arabia.
Bounou stressed that his appreciation for Malcom was not based solely on the Brazilian’s performances in matches.
“It was an honour for me to be your team-mate, and more importantly, I was happy to get to know you as a human being and a wonderful person,” he wrote.
That sentiment formed the central theme of the goalkeeper’s farewell, with Bounou focusing on Malcom’s character as much as his contribution on the field.
The Morocco international ended his message by wishing Malcom and his family well as the player begins the next stage of his career.
“I wish you and your family every success and all the best in the future,” Bounou said.
He then signed off with a warm personal message: “A big kiss, my love.”
Malcom’s departure has therefore brought an end to his time alongside Bounou at Al Hilal, but the goalkeeper’s words suggested that the friendship formed at the club will continue despite the Brazilian’s move to the UAE.
The tribute also offered a human perspective on player transfers, showing how relationships created inside a dressing room can remain important after footballers move to different clubs and competitions.
