Mohamed Benchrifa hails Wydad AC's team spirit

Wydad Casablanca head coach Mohamed Benchrifa has praised his side’s resilience and character following their hard-fought 3-2 victory over Hassania Agadir in a tense Botola Pro clash at the iconic Mohammed V Stadium on Saturday.

The match, played in front of a passionate home crowd, formed part of the 21st round of the Moroccan top-flight and tested Wydad’s depth, discipline, and mentality as they edged past a determined Hassania side.

Benchrifa admitted after the final whistle that the encounter was far from straightforward, describing Hassania Agadir as a well-organised and competitive opponent who caused his team numerous problems throughout the contest.

Despite the pressure, the coach highlighted his players’ determination to secure all three points, stressing that their “fighting spirit” and refusal to lose focus were the key factors behind the comeback victory.

He also pointed to the demanding fixture schedule as a growing challenge for the squad, noting that careful rotation and physical management are now essential to maintaining performance levels and avoiding injuries.

According to Benchrifa, the technical staff is actively working to improve consistency while also building confidence across the entire squad as the season reaches a critical stage.

Beyond the result, the Wydad coach emphasized the importance of patience and stability within the club’s sporting project, insisting that trust in the Moroccan coach and players is beginning to translate into improved performances on the pitch.

On the opposite bench, Hassania Agadir coach Hilal Al-Tayr felt the match was largely balanced, particularly in the opening stages, with his team managing to create several promising chances by exploiting spaces in Wydad’s defensive structure.

However, Al-Tayr lamented his side’s lack of efficiency in front of goal, suggesting that rushed decisions in key moments ultimately cost them a positive result. He also acknowledged Wydad’s experience, noting that their quick response after conceding proved decisive in shifting momentum.

Despite the defeat, the Hassania boss remained optimistic, insisting that his team showed enough quality to build on and will continue working to overcome their current challenges as the season progresses.

The result further underlines Wydad’s determination to stay competitive in the Botola Pro title race, while Hassania Agadir are left reflecting on missed opportunities in a match decided by fine margins.
