Hull City extend Sergej Jakirovic contract after perfect start

Hull City have extended manager Sergej Jakirovic’s contract until 2028 after the Bosnian coach guided the team to victory in each of his first three matches of the season.

Jakirovic’s impressive opening run has quickly made him one of the leading candidates for the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August. Hull City have made a perfect start across domestic competitions, securing three wins from three matches.

Their campaign began with a statement victory over Manchester United in the opening round of the Premier League. Hull City defeated United 2-0, giving Jakirovic an outstanding result in his first league match of the season.

The club then faced Stoke City in the second round of the EFL Cup. The match finished 1-1 after normal time, with Hull City eventually progressing by winning 5-4 on penalties.

Jakirovic’s side maintained their winning record in their next Premier League fixture, beating Coventry 1-0 in the second round of the competition. That result left Hull City among the teams with a 100 per cent record at this stage of the season.

The club are due to face Aston Villa at home on Saturday in the third round of the Premier League. A further victory would extend Hull City’s perfect start and give Jakirovic another opportunity to strengthen his claim for the August managerial award.

Hull City are one of only four teams to have collected maximum points in the Premier League so far. The other three are Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The decision to secure Jakirovic’s future represents an early show of confidence in a coach whose impact has been immediate. His team have combined a notable opening-day win over Manchester United with progress in the EFL Cup and a narrow league victory against Coventry.

Although the season has only just begun, Hull City’s three victories have placed the club in the group of teams yet to drop a point. The contract extension until 2028 ensures Jakirovic will remain in charge beyond the current campaign, following a start that has exceeded expectations.

The Bosnian coach’s next challenge will come against Aston Villa, with Hull City looking to preserve their flawless record in the third round of the Premier League.
