England captain Harry Kane has conceded that the Three Lions failed to reach their usual level after being held to a goalless draw by Ghana in a tightly contested Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The encounter on Tuesday night developed into a tactical stalemate, with both teams cancelling each other out and England left frustrated in the final third despite arriving with momentum from an opening win over Croatia.

Kane endured a quiet evening by his standards, registering just 19 touches across the full 90 minutes — his lowest tally in a completed major tournament match for England. The Bayern Munich striker had been in strong form coming into the game after netting twice against Croatia, but Ghana’s defensive organisation effectively limited his involvement throughout.

Speaking after the match, the England skipper acknowledged that his side were below their best and pointed to the need to reset quickly ahead of their final group fixture.

“We just weren’t at our best. It’s a game where you come away thinking we should’ve won it but we take the draw and move on to Panama,” Kane said.

The striker also admitted he did not make the most of the limited chances that came his way in front of goal.

“I back myself to score those normally, but it is what it is. Games like this happen. You just have to accept it and move on,” he added.

The result keeps both Ghana and England locked on four points at the top of Group L, setting up a tense final round of fixtures in the race for qualification to the knockout stage.

England will now turn their attention to Panama, while Ghana prepare for a decisive showdown against Croatia, with everything still to play for in the group.
