Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz eyes win over England

Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has set sights on securing victory against England in the upcoming crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup showdown.

The four-time African champions will face the Three Lions in a decisive Group L encounter on Tuesday, June 24, with both nations entering the fixture on the back of opening-game victories.

Ghana secured a dramatic late win over Panama after Caleb Yirenkyi struck deep into stoppage time to hand the Black Stars all three points. England, meanwhile, opened their campaign in impressive fashion with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Croatia.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated clash, Queiroz insisted his side will approach the game with belief despite England’s quality and squad depth.

“Tomorrow, we will fight to win. Whatever the result, our players must emerge from the game with their chins held high, knowing they gave everything,” he said during his pre-match press conference.

Ghana currently sit second in Group L, with England leading the standings on goal difference following the opening round of matches.

The experienced Portuguese tactician, who previously coached clubs including Real Madrid, has been tasked with leading Ghana back to the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since the nation’s memorable quarter-final appearance at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

A positive result against England would place the Black Stars in a strong position ahead of their final group-stage fixture against Croatia as they continue their quest for a place in the Round of 16.
