Hollywoodbets Super League weekend marred by R250, 000 theft at JVW

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies maintained their unbeaten start to the Hollywoodbets Super League season, but the weekend was overshadowed by the theft of valuables worth approximately R250, 000 from the JVW Girls’ dressing room.

The incident occurred during JVW FC’s 1-1 draw with newcomers Ramatlaohle in the Super Rise stream. According to a club statement, players discovered at half-time that personal belongings had been taken from their locker room.

The league has yet to comment on the incident.

Despite the setback, Gauteng-based JVW FC remain top of the Super Rise standings with 18 points from eight matches. Ramatlaohle are fifth on 11 points.

In the Super Era division, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies edged Diepkloof Ladies 1-0 at TUT Campus. Refilwe Tholakele scored the only goal late in the match, keeping Sundowns at the summit with 21 points from seven games.

Diepkloof, who are rookies in the competition, remain second from bottom with three points from eight matches.

AmaTuks move second

Siyamthanda Qashani scored a hat-trick for University of Pretoria (Amatuks) in their 4-0 victory over Stellenbosch Ladies. Khunjulwa Mali also found the net as AmaTuks moved into second place with 16 points from eight outings.

Qashani’s three goals took her tally for the season to seven, making her the league’s current leading scorer. Stellenbosch Ladies remain bottom of the table without a point after eight matches.

TS Galaxy Queens suffered their second consecutive league defeat and their third loss of the campaign, going down 3-0 to University of Western Cape (UWC).

Tiffany Kortjie scored twice in a Player of the Match performance, while Philisa Mbanjane added the other goal. The result lifted UWC into third place with 16 points from eight games, while TS Galaxy Queens dropped to fifth on 13 points.

Elsewhere, Ezemvelo Women’s team defeated University of Johannesburg 2-1 to hand UJ their second defeat of the season. University of Johannesburg remained second with 14 points, while Ezemvelo moved to sixth with nine points. Both sides have played eight matches.

City Lads claimed their first victory of the campaign by beating hosts Tshwane University of Technology 3-2. It was also City Lads’ first time scoring this season, although they remain at the bottom with three points from eight games.

Tshwane University of Technology are fourth on 11 points from the same number of matches.
