World Cup 2026: Fans to be allowed small sealed water bottles under new FIFA stadium rules
FIFA has introduced updated stadium security regulations for the upcoming World Cup, easing restrictions on what fans can bring into venues across North America.
Under the revised rules, spectators attending matches at the tournament will be permitted to carry a small sealed plastic water bottle of up to 590ml into stadiums in the United States and Canada.
However, reusable hard bottles and flasks remain prohibited, with organisers citing ongoing security considerations as the reason for the restriction.
The adjustment is seen as a minor but notable shift in matchday policy, aimed at improving fan comfort amid expectations of large crowds and warm summer conditions across host cities.
The tournament, officially branded the FIFA World Cup 2026, will be staged across three countries — United States, Canada, and Mexico — from June 11 to July 19.
It will be the first World Cup to feature 48 teams, marking a significant expansion of the competition and placing additional focus on stadium logistics, fan management, and security planning across the continent.
Organisers are expected to continue reviewing fan access rules as the tournament approaches, balancing safety requirements with the demands of an unprecedented global sporting event.
