Zamalek’s stance on their clash with Al Ahly remains unchanged, reaffirmed by club spokesman Ahmed Salem after Al Ahly withdrew from the highly anticipated summit match.
Despite Al Ahly’s demands for a foreign refereeing team and a postponement going as far as threatening to pull out of the league Zamalek proceeded as scheduled at Cairo Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Speaking on the TEN channel, Salem emphasized that Zamalek upheld their commitment to the match date set by the Football Association and Club Association.
“It was necessary to provide foreign referees for the summit, and Zamalek did not request Egyptian officials,” Salem stated. “But given the limited time, we agreed.”
He noted that the club had been assured that foreign arbitration would lead to fewer mistakes, which is why they accepted the decision.
Salem also highlighted Zamalek’s objections regarding fixture congestion, particularly their Egypt Cup tie against Modern Sport, but stressed that the club complied with all decisions.
“The summit will not be replayed,” he asserted. “There is no clause in the regulations for that. Zamalek won, and our position remains firm.”
