Andre Onana impresses during loan spell at Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has reaffirmed the club’s desire to retain Andre Onana beyond his current loan spell, following the goalkeeper’s decisive role in their Turkish Cup progress.

Onana, who joined the Black Sea side on a season-long loan from Manchester United, has quickly become a fan favourite, with his latest performance further strengthening his standing.

The 29-year-old delivered a match-winning display in the quarterfinal clash against Samsunspor, saving three penalties in a dramatic shootout to send Trabzonspor into the semifinals.

The Cameroonian’s heroics have intensified calls from supporters for the club to explore the possibility of making his stay permanent, despite the absence of a purchase clause in the original agreement with Manchester United.

Speaking to NTV Spor, Doğan made it clear that the club values the experienced goalkeeper highly and would welcome the chance to extend his stay, though he acknowledged that the final outcome will depend on multiple factors, including the player’s own ambitions.

“Onana’s career is already established,” Doğan said. “We like him. I’ve said this before. He has a certain plan for his career. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana’s.”

Since arriving in Turkey, Onana has shown glimpses of the quality that made him one of Europe’s most sought-after goalkeepers, bringing composure, leadership and big-game temperament to Trabzonspor’s backline.
