Vincent Kompany ranks Bundesliga above La Liga as Bayern boss makes bold claim

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has boldly placed the Bundesliga above La Liga, arguing that Germany’s top flight is the second-best league in world football behind the financially dominant Premier League.

Kompany, who guided Bayern to back-to-back Bundesliga titles after taking charge of the Bavarian giants, believes the German league offers a stronger overall footballing environment than its Spanish counterpart.

The former Manchester City defender also acknowledged the Premier League’s financial advantage, insisting its vast resources have helped establish England’s top flight as the world’s leading domestic competition.

“The Premier League has got a lot more resources than any other league in the world right now.

“That’s also a reason why they’re the best league in the world. The Bundesliga comes second in my opinion, it has a lot of things, like a really powerful fan culture with talented players and lots of very strong teams.

“The Premier League has built up an advantage over time and if you have more money, you can buy better talent, it’s all linked.”

Kompany backs Bundesliga’s depth and culture

Kompany’s assessment represents a strong endorsement of the Bundesliga, which has frequently been placed behind both the Premier League and La Liga when Europe’s leading domestic competitions are ranked.

However, the Bayern coach believes the German game possesses qualities that make it more competitive than its reputation suggests, particularly its atmosphere, fan culture and depth of talent.

His comments come as Bayern prepare for another season in which domestic success will be expected, while the club also targets a deeper run in the UEFA Champions League.
