Trabzonspor president says no agreement yet for Al-Hilal striker Darwin Nunez

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan says the Turkish club is still negotiating with Al-Hilal over a possible deal for Uruguay international Darwin Nunez, but insists no agreement has been reached.

Reports in Turkey had suggested that Trabzonspor and the Saudi Arabian club were in discussions over a move for the striker. The speculation followed Mohamed Salah’s arrival at the Turkish side and renewed interest in reuniting the former Liverpool team-mates.

Speaking to TRT Spor, Dogan acknowledged Trabzonspor’s admiration for Nunez but made clear that talks remain incomplete.

“Nunez is a very good player, and I think I do not need to talk about that because he is a player everyone knows,” Dogan said.

He added: “Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez formed a very successful partnership in the Premier League, and Nunez is also a player our manager likes.”

However, Dogan emphasised that the negotiations had not yet produced a deal.

“But there is no agreement with him so far, we are continuing negotiations, and there is no agreement at the moment,” he said.

Nunez moved to Saudi Arabia last season in a transfer worth 54m euros. He has not delivered the level of performance expected since joining Al-Hilal and is hoping to rediscover his best form.

The striker previously played alongside Salah at Liverpool before leaving the Premier League for Al-Hilal. Their partnership was one of the factors highlighted by Dogan as Trabzonspor consider a possible move for Nunez.

Nunez has made 24 appearances for Al-Hilal, scoring nine goals and providing five assists. Those figures form the basis of his record since moving to the Saudi club, although his performances have reportedly fallen short of expectations.

For now, Trabzonspor have confirmed only that negotiations are continuing. Dogan’s comments rule out any suggestion that an agreement has already been completed, despite reports linking Nunez with a move to the Turkish club.

The potential transfer would see Nunez return to a different European league after his spell in England with Liverpool, while also bringing him back into the same team as Salah. The two players previously shared the Liverpool attack before Nunez’s move to Al-Hilal.

Trabzonspor’s interest is also supported by the club’s manager, whom Dogan said is an admirer of the Uruguay international. But with discussions still under way, there is currently no confirmed agreement between Nunez, Trabzonspor and Al-Hilal.
