Getafe’s hopes of signing Jadon Sancho have ended after the England winger told club president Angel Torres that he would not join the Spanish side.
Sancho has received a lucrative offer from a club outside Europe, with negotiations over his next move being handled by his representatives. The Saudi proposal is understood to be capable of meeting his financial demands, which are expected to be higher than those he made to Getafe.
The winger had asked for €3m net until the end of the season to agree to a move to Getafe. Jose Bordalas had identified him as a potential addition to strengthen an attack with limited options, as the club compete in three competitions.
Reports in England had claimed Getafe’s offer was worth €400,000, but the club put forward a considerably higher figure, according to Spanish newspaper Marca. However, it still fell short of Sancho’s expectations.
Sancho’s agents, who have previously represented the player during spells with Manchester United, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, ruled out a move to Getafe on Tuesday morning. They are now working to complete the details of his new deal.
Marca reported that Sancho is in talks with a Saudi club and that preparations are being made to satisfy his financial requirements. The move would bring his time in Europe to an end.
Getafe halt recruitment plans
Getafe have two spaces available in their squad but have decided to close their recruitment activity until the winter transfer window opens on 2 January, unless an especially attractive opportunity emerges.
Separately, La Liga president Javier Tebas visited the offices at the Coliseum on Tuesday for a meeting with Torres. Marca described the atmosphere as positive.
“Our relations are at their best,” Tebas said.
Torres, however, criticised the Spanish Football Federation over the Copa del Rey fixture schedule. He argued that Sevilla and Real Betis could have avoided facing Sporting Hortaleza and Navalcarnero, while Getafe and Rayo Vallecano have to travel to Andalusia to play Lebrija and Huelva.
“This match will cost us €60,000,” Torres said.
The disagreement comes as Getafe prepare to manage a squad competing across three tournaments, with the club also due to face Sevilla in La Liga on 1 November 2026.
