Trabzonspor make fresh move to sign Al Hilal striker Darwin Nunez

Trabzonspor are preparing a new approach for Al Hilal forward Darwin Nunez, with the Turkish club’s vice-president expected to travel to Turkey in the coming days to negotiate the final details of a potential deal with the Saudi Arabian side.

According to Turkish website Tribun Arena, Trabzonspor have already reached an agreement with Nunez over a proposed contract worth €8m a year. The club are now seeking to conclude discussions with Al Hilal over the transfer of the Uruguay international.

Trabzonspor are prioritising the strengthening of their attack before the start of the new season and have identified Nunez as their main target. Their interest in the former Liverpool striker comes after the club completed the signing of Mohamed Salah.

Nunez moved to Saudi Arabia last season for a reported €54m but did not produce the level of performance expected of him. He is understood to be keen to regain his previous form, with a move to Trabzonspor potentially offering him the opportunity to do so.

Trabzonspor had also considered a deal for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, but ended their interest after the coaching staff reportedly became unconvinced by the player’s recent physical and technical condition.

Nunez and Salah were team-mates at Liverpool before the Uruguay forward moved to Al Hilal. Salah joined Trabzonspor in recent days on a two-year contract and has begun training with the squad as preparations continue for the 2026-27 campaign.

The Egypt captain was not included in Trabzonspor’s squad for their friendly against Goztepe, which Trabzonspor lost 2-1.

Trabzonspor said Salah would receive an annual salary of €10m, in addition to a €7m signing-on fee. That would take his guaranteed total remuneration to €17m over the terms announced by the club.

His contract also includes performance-related financial incentives. Trabzonspor added that Salah will receive 20% of the income generated from official products released in his name, while his agent’s commission was set at 5% under the published contract details.

Salah spent nine seasons at Liverpool before moving to Trabzonspor. During his time with the club, he played 315 matches, scoring 257 goals and providing 120 assists.

Trabzonspor’s renewed interest in Nunez follows Salah’s arrival as the club seek to build a stronger attacking line-up ahead of the new season. The Turkish side now appear ready to take further steps towards a deal, with talks over the final financial and transfer arrangements still to be completed.
