Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-1 in Sydney friendly despite playing with 10 men

Tottenham secured a 2-1 friendly victory over Chelsea at Accor Stadium in Sydney, Australia, despite playing the final stages with 10 men.

Sandro Tonali gave Tottenham the lead in the 17th minute with a shot that took a deflection before finding the net.

Chelsea responded quickly, with Estevao levelling the match four minutes later. The Brazilian forward headed home from a cross delivered by Romeo Lavia to make it 1-1.

Both teams used a large number of players during the match, with changes made across the first and second halves. The game remained level at the interval, but the balance shifted soon after the restart when Tottenham defender Kevin Danso was sent off.

Danso received his marching orders four minutes into the second half after bringing down Joao Pedro, who was through on goal. Tottenham were therefore forced to continue with 10 players for the remainder of the match.

Chelsea were unable to take advantage of their numerical superiority, and Tottenham found a late winner in the 92nd minute. Richarlison followed up after a shot had come back off the post, converting the rebound to complete Tottenham’s victory.

The result gives Tottenham a 2-1 success over Chelsea in their meeting in Sydney, with all three goals coming from open play. Tonali’s deflected effort put Tottenham in front, Estevao’s header restored parity and Richarlison’s stoppage-time finish settled the match.

Chelsea will play their next friendly against Juventus on Wednesday, 5 August. Tottenham’s next friendly is scheduled for Saturday, 8 August, when they will face Getafe.
