Ayyoub Bouaddi makes strong Manchester City debut as Premier League starter

Ayyoub Bouaddi made an impressive first Premier League start for Manchester City as the 19-year-old Morocco midfielder helped the Citizens beat Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday.

The match, played on the seventh day of the English league season, marked Bouaddi’s first appearance in the starting line-up in the competition. The former Lille player was given his opportunity after making a notable impact as a substitute against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Bouaddi completed the full 90 minutes after being selected by Enzo Maresca. He operated in front of the defence alongside Mateo Kovacic and displayed considerable composure in a demanding midfield role.

Bouaddi’s statistics underline his control

The Morocco international had 92 touches of the ball and completed 68 of his 72 passes, giving him an accuracy rate of 94%.

Those figures reflected his ability to retain possession and support Manchester City’s passing game. Bouaddi was also involved in the defensive side of the contest, making four tackles, recovering the ball four times and winning seven ground duels.

His performance combined his responsibility in possession with a willingness to compete physically against Ipswich Town. Rather than simply helping City build from the back, he contributed to the team’s efforts to regain control when the opposition had the ball.

Midfielder earns praise for his maturity

Bouaddi’s display was notable not only for his numbers. He remained calm while facing pressure from Ipswich Town and showed confidence in his technical ability throughout the match.

His positioning, availability to teammates and quality on the ball helped maintain Manchester City’s balance during a closely contested game. He also played a part in the construction of the team’s attacks while carrying out his duties in a deeper midfield position.

The performance could strengthen Bouaddi’s prospects of featuring more regularly in Enzo Maresca’s plans for the remainder of the season. Signed this summer for a reported fee of 100 million euros, the young Morocco international is already under significant expectation.

His first Premier League start offered an encouraging response. Against Ipswich Town, Bouaddi showed he could handle the demands of a full match and make a case for greater responsibility with the Citizens.

The former Lille player’s display was also welcomed in Morocco. Youssef Safri has backed the decision to move Bouaddi to Manchester City, while Youssouf Hadji said: “Bouaddi has all the qualities to succeed at Manchester City.”
