Three football bets to consider on 18 October: goals, corners and half-time stalemate

Arthur Wandji, a Cameroonian sports journalist and betting expert, has selected three matches for a football accumulator on 18 October, with recommendations involving corners, a goalscorer and the half-time score.

Bayer Leverkusen v Fribourg – 13:30 GMT

Betting option: Under 10.5 corners (odds: 1.53)

Bayer Leverkusen, managed by Christian Kofanereco, host Fribourg in the sixth round of the Bundesliga on Sunday. The last three meetings between the teams have produced no more than seven corners, according to the available statistics.

That pattern is also reflected in Fribourg’s recent league record, with fewer than 9.5 corners taken in nine of their past 10 championship matches.

Julian Schuster’s side will be seeking a sixth consecutive league fixture in which they score at least once, having recorded four wins and one draw in the competition this season. However, Fribourg will be without top scorer Yuito Suzuki, who is suspended.

Leverkusen will also have to cope without their Cameroon striker. The absence could reduce the number of unstructured attacking surges and lead to a contest focused largely in midfield.

Leeds v Manchester United – 13:00 GMT

Betting option: Bryan Mbeumo to score (odds: 3.4)

Manchester United travel to Leeds on Sunday looking to respond to their 2-0 Champions League defeat by Atletico Madrid. Bryan Mbeumo is identified as the visitors’ main attacking threat in a match where they may need an individual moment to break the deadlock.

Mbeumo scored against Tottenham on 10 October and will be aiming to add to that contribution at Elland Road.

Leeds have defended particularly well before half-time this season, conceding only once in the opening 45 minutes of their Premier League matches. Michael Carrick’s team have, however, registered a record 125 shots across six games and are expected to apply sustained pressure in the opposition half.

With Daniel James and Joe Rodon absent for Leeds, Mbeumo’s pace and willingness to take the initiative could give him opportunities to find the net.

Milan v Atalanta – 16:00 GMT

Betting option: 0-0 at half-time (odds: 3.28)

AC Milan have shown considerable tactical discipline under Ruben Amorim, with eight of their 11 goals arriving particularly late, between the 61st and 70th minutes.

Atalanta, managed by Maurizio Sarri, arrive at San Siro weakened by Eljif Elmas’ suspension and simultaneous injuries to Raoul Bellanova, Giorgio Scalvini and Giacomo Raspadori.

Gianluca Scamacca remains a recent attacking threat after scoring in the 3-1 Conference League victory against Pafos. Atalanta have nevertheless lost their past two away Serie A matches, a sequence that could encourage a cautious opening.

Milan also have a defensive absence, with Matteo Gabbia unavailable, which may prompt the home side to protect the centre of the pitch during the first 45 minutes.

Odds may change.
