Teboho Mokoena’s agent shuts down Al Ahly transfer links
Glenn Penkin, agent of Mamelodi Sundowns star Teboho Mokoena has firmly dismissed reports linking the South African midfielder to Al Ahly.
Mokoena has been linked with a potential move to Al Ahly in the upcoming summer transfer window, amid the imminent departure of midfielder Aliou Dieng on a free transfer to Spain.
Speaking to South Africa’s Daily Dispatch, Penkin disclosed there has been official approach from Al Ahly for the services of Mokoena.
“In almost every transfer window, there is speculation linking Teboho to Al Ahly, but the player has a contract with Sundowns until 2029,” Penkin said.
He further explained that any potential transfer would require formal discussions between the two clubs, not just media speculation.
“Given Mokoena’s contractual situation with Sundowns, Al Ahly must contact the club’s management first if they are interested in signing the player,” he added.
Penkin also emphasized that the 29-year-old midfielder is currently focused on key competitive commitments with Sundowns, including the CAF Champions League final and upcoming international duties.
“At the moment, Teboho is focused on the league, the African Champions League, and then the World Cup with the South African national team,” he said. “After that, we can sit down and assess the options available regarding his future.”
Sundowns are preparing for a major continental showdown against AS FAR of Morocco, after eliminating Esperance de Tunis in the semi-finals. The club remains in contention for another Champions League crown, with Mokoena expected to play a central role in midfield.
Since joining Sundowns from SuperSport United four seasons ago, Mokoena has developed into one of the most influential midfielders in African football. The 29-year-old has made 173 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals and providing 13 assists.
His performances have been vital in Sundowns’ domestic dominance and growing continental reputation, making him a regular subject of transfer speculation across Africa and beyond.
Despite growing external interest, Penkin’s comments suggest there is no immediate plan for a departure, with the midfielder still under a long-term deal and deeply involved in crucial fixtures for club and country.
For now, Sundowns appear determined to hold onto one of their most important assets as they chase further success on both domestic and continental fronts.
