Tanguy Nianzou completes Lille move after Sevilla exit

Lille have completed the signing of defender Tanguy Nianzou from Sevilla, handing the former Bayern Munich centre-back a fresh opportunity to rebuild his career in Ligue 1.

The 24-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Les Dogues, with the club holding an option to extend the deal for an additional season.

Nianzou arrives at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy as Lille look to strengthen their defensive options following the departures of experienced defenders Aissa Mandi and Chancel Mbemba.

The French club are hoping the move will help the talented defender rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe’s most promising young centre-backs.

Nianzou eager to revive career at Lille

The transfer marks a return to familiar surroundings for Nianzou, who was born in France and developed through the youth system at Paris Saint-Germain before moving abroad.

Speaking after completing his move, the defender expressed his excitement about joining Lille and described the club as the right place for the next chapter of his career.

“The overwhelming emotion today is pure joy. I’m incredibly happy to have had this opportunity to sign with LOSC, which I believe is the ideal club for the next stage of my career and offers the perfect environment to develop,” Nianzou told club media.

The centre-back admitted his immediate priority is to regain confidence, enjoy regular football and contribute to Lille’s ambitions.

“The most important thing for me is to regain my full confidence, my smile, playing time, and thus be able to help the team win. My discussions with the president have always been very clear.”

Lille betting on Nianzou’s potential

Despite his reputation as a highly gifted defender, Nianzou’s progress has been disrupted by injuries throughout his senior career.

The former France youth international has made just 103 senior appearances across spells with Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Sevilla, a record that highlights the challenges he has faced in maintaining consistency.

However, Lille believe the defender still has the qualities needed to become a key figure in their backline.

Nianzou, who spent time learning his trade at some of Europe’s biggest clubs, is now focused on making the most of his return to French football.

“He told me upon my arrival that we work differently here; I’m here, too, to bring my own unique perspective,” he said.

“I’m also happy to be back in France, the country where I was born and where I learned to play football. I’m really looking forward to meeting my teammates and the fans. I’m a Dogues too now.”
