Strasbourg face tough call over Samir El Mourabet as Europe circles
RC Strasbourg are confronted with an increasingly familiar modern football dilemma: protect a developing talent or sanction a lucrative exit that could reshape their squad planning.
At the centre of the discussion is 20-year-old midfielder Samir El Mourabet, who has emerged as one of the French Ligue 1 side’s most influential young players. His rapid progression and growing authority in midfield have made him both indispensable on the pitch and highly attractive in the transfer market.

Media outlet Jeunes Footeux has indicated that any potential deal would likely require a fee in the region of €40 million to €50 million. The valuation underlines Strasbourg’s stance: not actively seeking a sale, but open to negotiation if an exceptional offer arrives.
Club officials are understood to be planning around El Mourabet as they prepare for expected changes to the squad in upcoming windows. His presence is seen as vital to maintaining continuity and stability during a period of transition. Yet, like many emerging talents in Ligue 1, his situation remains fluid.
On the pitch, El Mourabet has continued to strengthen his reputation. He has made 30 appearances this season, contributing one goal and three assists. Across all competitions, including Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the UEFA Conference League, he has registered 44 appearances, four goals and three assists.
His development has also translated to the international stage. After representing Morocco at youth level, he has earned two senior caps and is now viewed as a potential inclusion in the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
