Gislain Ahoudo in uphill battle as Al Arabi fight for survival in Saudi Arabia
Gislain Ahoudo’s move to Saudi Arabia has quickly turned into a struggle for survival, with Al Arabi locked in a desperate relegation fight following a damaging run of defeats.
The Beninese midfielder, who joined the club in February after leaving Avenir Sportif de Gabès in search of a fresh start, is now part of a side enduring one of its most difficult periods of the season.
Rather than stability, his new chapter has been defined by pressure at the wrong end of the table.
Al Arabi’s poor form has left them without confidence and results, with the club suffering eight consecutive league defeats.
Despite Ahoudo’s involvement since his arrival, featuring in nine matches, he has been unable to reverse the team’s downward spiral.
Their latest setback came on the 29th matchday, when they were beaten 3-1 away to direct relegation rivals Al Batin.
Ahoudo did not feature in the match and remained on the bench throughout, as his side once again failed to respond in a crucial fixture.
With the season entering its final stages, Al Arabi’s position in the table has become increasingly precarious.
The club remains stuck in the relegation zone and is now facing the real possibility of dropping to the second division if results do not improve quickly.
Currently sitting 17th with just 16 points, Al Arabi are still within touching distance of safety. The gap to Al Batin, who occupy the lowest position outside the relegation zone, is only two points.
However, with momentum firmly against them, every remaining match has taken on must-win importance.
For Ahoudo and his teammates, the challenge is now clear: find a way to stop the losing streak and keep their survival hopes alive in a tense end to the campaign.
