The South African Premiership title race will go down to the final weekend of the season after Orlando Pirates failed to take full control, settling for a goalless draw against Durban City at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday.

What was expected to be a decisive step towards a long-awaited championship instead opened the door for Mamelodi Sundowns, who now sit in a commanding position to extend their dominance.

For Pirates, the result extends an anxious wait for a league crown that has eluded them since the 2011/12 campaign, setting up a tense finale that leaves little margin for error.

Orlando Pirates entered the fixture knowing victory would have taken them to the summit and placed them on the brink of ending a 5,110-day title drought. They dominated early proceedings, controlling possession with authority and dictating the tempo almost from the first whistle.
