South African coach Pitso Mosimane emerges as top candidate for Ceramica Cleopatra job
South African tactician Pitso Mosimane has reportedly emerged as a leading contender to take charge of Egyptian Premier League side Ceramica Cleopatra, as uncertainty grows over the future of current coach Ali Maher.
The Egyptian outfit are planning for life without Maher, who has been linked with a move to ambitious Pyramids FC ahead of the new campaign.
According to reports, Ceramica Cleopatra has already opened discussions with multiple coaching candidates as part of its contingency planning, with Mosimane featuring prominently among the preferred options.
Negotiations are believed to have taken place with the South African tactician, with the experienced tactician leaving door open for a switch should Maher depart the club. While no final agreement has been reached, Mosimane is understood to be high on the club’s shortlist.
The Egyptian club is also reportedly assessing other coaching profiles, but Mosimane’s experience and reputation across African football make him one of the standout names under consideration.
The former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns coach has been without a managerial role since his departure from Iranian side Esteghlal FC in January 2025, but remains one of the most in-demand African coaches on the market.
His availability has kept him in the spotlight as clubs across the continent evaluate experienced options capable of delivering immediate impact in competitive leagues.
Beyond the Egyptian speculation, Mosimane’s name has also been linked with a potential return to international football, including discussions around the South African national team job. This comes amid reports suggesting that current Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos could step away from the role in the future.
For now, Ceramica Cleopatra’s coaching situation remains unresolved, but the growing interest in Mosimane signals serious intent from the club as they prepare for possible changes at the helm ahead of the new campaign.
