Burkina Faso sensation Somé Romaric shines despite relegation season
Teenager Somé Romaric has emerged as one of the standout stories of Burkina Faso football after finishing as the top scorer in the national league despite playing primarily as a midfielder.
The 18-year-old, who represents AJEB, scored 13 goals and provided three assists in 30 appearances during his debut season in Ligue 1. His performances have marked him out as one of the most promising young talents in the country.
Operating mainly in midfield, Somé combined technical quality with attacking intelligence, regularly making decisive contributions in the final third.
His ability to influence games both through goals and creative play has made him one of the most effective young players in the Fasofoot competition.
Throughout the season, he demonstrated strong control on the ball, composure in attacking situations and an ability to break forward effectively during transitions. These qualities helped him stand out even as his club struggled collectively.
Despite AJEB’s relegation to the second division, Somé’s individual performances have drawn significant attention from across Burkina Faso football.
Supporters and analysts have highlighted his consistency and maturity, particularly given his age and the pressure of a debut top-flight campaign.
His goal tally has placed him among the league’s most efficient attackers, an unusual achievement for a midfielder in his first professional season. That return has further strengthened his reputation as one of the brightest prospects in Burkinabe football.
Interest from higher-level clubs is now expected to grow following his breakthrough campaign, with observers noting that his development trajectory points towards a promising future at the top level.
While AJEB face the challenge of rebuilding after relegation, Somé’s performances have provided a rare positive in their season and ensured he finishes the campaign as one of the most talked-about young players in the league.
At just 18, Somé Romaric’s rise has positioned him as a key name to watch in Burkina Faso football moving forward.
