Siwelele sack Lehlohonolo Seema after winless Betway Premiership start

Siwelele have dismissed head coach Lehlohonolo Seema following a poor opening to the 2026/27 season, making him the second Betway Premiership manager to lose his job this campaign.

Assistant coach Willem Jackson has also been relieved of his first-team duties while the club reviews the performance of its senior team and its technical programme.

“Following a disappointing start to the 2026/27 season, Siwelele have relieved head coach Lehlohonolo Seema and assistant coach Willem Jackson of their first-team duties, while the club conducts a review of the senior team’s performance and technical programme,” Siwelele said in a statement on Monday.

The club are yet to win a league match this season, having collected two draws and suffered three defeats.

Seema’s departure follows Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Kaizer Chiefs at Dobsonville Stadium. That result proved to be the final match of his tenure after he joined Siwelele in July last year.

Godfrey Mosoetsa has been appointed caretaker coach with immediate effect, the club confirmed.

His first match in charge will come against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30.

Seema leaves after winning only eight of the 37 matches in which he led Siwelele. His record also included 14 defeats and 15 draws.

His dismissal comes one week after Sekhukhune United parted company with Cedric Kaze, who was the first Betway Premiership coach to be sacked this season.

Siwelele’s decision brings an end to Seema’s spell at the club after a run of results that left the side without a league victory from its first five matches. The defeat by Kaizer Chiefs was the latest setback and prompted the club to make a change in its technical team.

The club has now placed Mosoetsa in charge as it considers the future of the senior-team structure and technical programme. His immediate challenge will be a difficult away fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Seema’s overall record underlines the difficulties faced during his time in charge. Across 37 games, Siwelele won eight, drew 15 and lost 14, a sequence that ultimately led to his dismissal.

The coaching change means Seema is the second manager to depart a Betway Premiership club during the 2026/27 season. Kaze’s exit from Sekhukhune United last week preceded Monday’s announcement from Siwelele.
