Simba SC land Bakari Msimu in two-year deal after Coastal Union exit
Tanzania’s Simba SC have strengthened their squad with the acquisition of midfielder Bakari Msimu, who has signed a two-year contract after turning down a renewal offer from Coastal Union FC.
The highly rated player becomes the latest addition to the Tanzanian giants as they continue to reinforce their squad ahead of the new campaign, edging out interest from his former club, which had been keen to retain him.
Msimu’s departure from Coastal Union FC follows weeks of behind-the-scenes negotiations, with the club initially preparing an improved contract extension in a bid to secure his long-term future and potentially position him for a future sale.
However, the midfielder declined the proposal, opting instead for a switch to one of the country’s most ambitious sides.
Simba SC moved swiftly to finalise the deal, convincing the player with an improved package and a clear sporting project that aligns with their domestic and continental ambitions.
Financial details of the agreement indicate a structured two-year deal. In the first year, Msimu is expected to earn TSh 6 million, which rises to TSh 7 million in the second year. In addition, he is understood to have received a signing-on fee of TSh 120 million, underlining Simba SC’s determination to beat competition for his signature.
The transfer is seen as another statement of intent from Simba SC, who continue to invest in proven talent within the Tanzanian Premier League as they aim to maintain their dominance and make deeper runs in continental competitions.
For Coastal Union FC, the loss of Msimu represents a setback, particularly given their long-term plan to develop and eventually profit from his rise. His decision to reject a renewal and move on, however, brings an abrupt end to those plans.
Msimu is expected to join up with his new teammates immediately as preparations intensify for the upcoming fixtures.
