Simba SC keen to keep Neo Maema as Sundowns face transfer decision
Neo Maema’s future is set to attract growing attention at the end of the season, with Simba SC reportedly preparing to open discussions with Mamelodi Sundowns over the midfielder’s long-term stay in Tanzania.
The gifted left-footed playmaker joined Sundowns from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2021 on what was understood to be a five-year contract with the Tshwane-based giants.
Although Maema showed flashes of quality during his early spell at Sundowns, limited opportunities under head coach Miguel Cardoso saw him seek regular first-team football, leading to a season-long loan move to Simba.
The switch to Tanzania has proven beneficial for the 30-year-old, who has revived his form under coach Steve Barker. Maema has emerged as an influential figure for Simba, helping drive the club’s Tanzanian Premier League title challenge after already contributing to silverware success earlier in the campaign.
His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed.
Reports indicate that Simba are highly satisfied with the South African midfielder’s impact and are now considering extending his stay beyond the current season.
Sources close to the situation suggest that Wekundu wa Msimbazi view Maema as an important part of their plans heading into the next campaign.
“Simba would look to retain Neo; they believe he can still contribute after having a great season,” a source told KickOff.
Despite the growing interest from Simba, no formal agreement has been reached. Sundowns are expected to make a final assessment of Maema’s future once the Tanzanian league season concludes.
The loan spell has offered Maema a valuable opportunity to rebuild momentum through regular playing time, while Simba’s willingness to keep him reflects the strong impression he has made since arriving at the club.
For now, the midfielder’s future remains tied to Sundowns, with discussions over his next move likely to intensify once the season comes to an end.
