Barcelona secure Egypt prospect Hamza Abdelkarim with contract extension until 2030

Barcelona have extended Hamza Abdelkarim’s contract until 2030 after the 18-year-old Egyptian forward impressed during pre-season.

The club confirmed the agreement on Friday, rewarding a player who has quickly moved into contention for a place in Hansi Flick’s first-team squad.

Abdelkarim joined Barcelona in February from Al Ahly on loan, with an option for the Catalan club to make the move permanent. His form for the Under-19 side convinced Barcelona to activate that clause, reportedly worth about 1.5m euros.

He scored six goals in 11 appearances for the Under-19s, establishing himself as one of the club’s most promising young players and securing a permanent move to Barcelona.

The forward then continued to make an impression during preparations for the 2026/27 season. Working with Flick’s senior group, Abdelkarim scored four times, performances which brought him closer to regular first-team involvement.

His progress led to a first appearance for Barcelona at the end of August. Abdelkarim was introduced against Rayo Vallecano in a 5-2 victory, marking his first minutes in the club’s colours at senior level.

The Egypt international has won six caps and has also featured at the World Cup. Barcelona now regard him as one of their key prospects for the future, with the new long-term agreement providing further evidence of their commitment to his development.
