Libya announce squad for 2027 AFCON qualifiers

Libya have announced their squad for the opening matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers as they prepare to begin their campaign in Group H.

The Mediterranean Knights have been drawn alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Botswana in a competitive group, with the North Africans hoping to secure a strong start as they pursue qualification for the 2027 continental showpiece.

Coach Youssoupha Dabo will lead Libya into their opening fixture against Botswana on September 24, with the team looking to make home advantage count and secure all three points.

Libya will then face another demanding assignment just four days later when they travel to the Hoima City Stadium to take on Uganda in their second Group H encounter.

With two matches coming in quick succession, Dabo has selected a 30-man squad featuring a blend of experienced players and emerging talents across the three main departments.

The squad includes four goalkeepers, 13 defenders, nine midfielders and eight attackers, giving Dabo several options as he prepares his side for the opening stages of the qualifiers.

The attacking department includes experienced names such as Hamdo Elhouni and Ismael Altajouri, while the midfield is led by players including Ashraf ElMugsi, Ahmed Ben Ali and Abdullah Al Orfi.

Libya will be hoping to collect maximum points from their opening two matches and establish themselves as early contenders in Group H.

The Mediterranean Knights will need consistency throughout the qualifying campaign, with every point potentially proving crucial in their bid to return to the Africa Cup of Nations.
