Shalulile goal helps Young Africans reach CAF Champions League second round
Peter Shalulile scored again as Young Africans secured a place in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League with a 2-1 home victory over Gaborone United on Saturday.
The Tanzanian side advanced 3-2 on aggregate after the two teams had drawn 1-1 in the first leg.
Shalulile put Manqoba Mngqithi’s team ahead after seven minutes, registering his third goal since joining the club.
Cheikh Toure extended Young Africans’ lead in the 84th minute, leaving Gaborone United needing two goals to turn the tie around.
Lebogang Ditsele reduced the deficit three minutes later, but the visitors could not find another goal before the final whistle.
The result was Mngqithi’s seventh victory in eight matches since he became Young Africans head coach.
Young Africans will face CFFA of Madagascar in the next round. CFFA progressed after beating Lesotho side Lijabotha 3-1 on aggregate.
