Serhou Guirassy is having a season to remember at Borussia Dortmund, lighting up the Champions League with 10 goals and proving himself as one of Europe’s deadliest strikers.
The secret behind his remarkable form? Confidence and hard work.
“It is only a question of self-confidence. And I understood that talent is not sufficient at a very high level. In the end, there are several reasons: my self-confidence, my attitude, our great season in Stuttgart, a very good trainer (Sebastian Hoeneß, editor’s note),” Guirassy told L’Équipe.
Despite his incredible performances, the BVB star was left off the 2024 Ballon d’Or nominee list—a decision he found difficult to accept.
“I did not understand my absence among the thirty nominees for the Ballon d’Or 2024, I hope to be there this year. To get better in every game, to continue growing and play for the biggest clubs is my plan,” he said.
Guirassy knows football comes with its highs and lows, but external praise isn’t what drives him. “Even Messi and Mbappé are criticized… I don’t need love to bring performance,” he added.
