Edouard Mendy has pledged his long-term future to Al Ahli by signing a contract extension that keeps him at the Saudi club until June 2028, a deal sealed today alongside sporting director Rui Pedro Braz.

The Senegal international initially joined Al Ahli from Chelsea in 2023 for a reported £16 million fee and has since become a cornerstone of their recent success.

Mendy played a decisive role in Al Ahli’s historic Asian Champions League triumph in May, making the club continental champions for the first time and placing himself in elite company as one of the few goalkeepers to win both the European and Asian equivalents after his heroics in Chelsea’s 2021 Champions League victory. The renewal is seen as a strong signal of his satisfaction with the club’s ambitious project and its faith in him as a leader on and off the pitch.

In a previous interview with the BBC, Mendy reflected on his choice to move to Jeddah, saying: “The Al Ahli project came and they made me feel I had an important role to play. Two years later, we win the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history… so yes, that validates my choice. And I hope the next few years validate it even more.”

His new deal gives both player and club a stable platform as Al Ahli aim to build on their Asian success and push further in domestic and international competitions.
