Kevin Guitoun wins Belgian league player of the month award

Kevin Guitoun has been named the Belgian league’s player of the month for August after helping Charleroi make a perfect start to the season.

The Algerian international played an important role as Charleroi won all four of their matches during the opening month of the campaign. He contributed two goals and one assist during that run.

Guitoun was presented with his award at the Pays de Charleroi stadium, where he expressed his delight at receiving the individual honour.

The full-back was quick to highlight the contribution of his team-mates and regarded the award as recognition of the collective work behind Charleroi’s impressive start.

His performances have also provided a response to the disappointment of missing out on the 2026 World Cup.

Guitoun was included in Algeria’s extended squad before the tournament but did not make Vladimir Petković’s final selection. The coach instead opted for Rafik Belghali and Samir Chergui, among others.

Despite that setback, Guitoun says difficult moments have helped him develop mentally and given him greater motivation to respond.

“It’s an image that reflects my whole career. Every time I experience disappointments or setbacks, it makes me stronger,” he said after receiving his trophy.

The Charleroi defender added that his ability to recover from difficult moments has helped him maintain his focus and continue working towards his next objectives.

“Despite all these disappointments, I managed to get back on my feet. In the end, it gives me more strength and energy to face what comes next.”

Guitoun’s start to the Belgian season has now placed him in a strong position as he looks towards the next international break.

The Algerian is hoping his form for Charleroi will be enough to earn him another opportunity with the Greens after missing out on the World Cup.

There could also be an opening for his return following Belghali’s suspension, which may increase his chances of being considered for the next squad.

For Guitoun, the player of the month award represents more than recognition for his performances over the opening weeks of the season. It also underlines his response to the disappointment of being left out of Algeria’s World Cup squad.

After contributing to four consecutive Charleroi victories, the full-back will now look to maintain his form and put himself back into contention for international selection.

His immediate objective is clear: continue performing at club level and use that form to earn another chance with Algeria during the next international break.
