Salzburg make winning start to Europa League with narrow victory at Levski Sofia

FC Salzburg began their Europa League campaign with a valuable 1-0 away win against Levski Sofia.

The Austrian side had to be patient against a well-organised Bulgarian defence during the opening stages, but eventually found a way through before half-time.

Haris Tabakovic broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. The Salzburg forward took advantage of an opening to beat the Levski Sofia goalkeeper and finish the visitors’ first-half dominance with the only goal of the match.

Levski Sofia increased the pressure after the interval as they searched for an equaliser, but Salzburg’s defence held firm until the final whistle.

The narrow victory gives Salzburg three points from the opening matchday and provides an ideal start to their European campaign.
