RS Berkane step up efforts to sign Morocco international Sofiane Boufal

RS Berkane have intensified their efforts to persuade Morocco international Sofiane Boufal to return to the Moroccan league during the current summer transfer window.

According to Africa Foot, the club’s officials are preparing a number of incentives as they attempt to convince the former Le Havre player to join the Orange team. Those arguments include RS Berkane’s sporting project, their domestic and continental ambitions, and the stability the club has enjoyed in recent seasons.

The possible move would represent a significant addition for RS Berkane, who want to use Boufal’s international experience and technical quality to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

A further part of the club’s approach is the recent renewal of Morocco goalkeeper Munir El Kajoui’s contract. RS Berkane have reached an official agreement with their international goalkeeper for him to continue with the club, and believe his presence could help persuade Boufal to make the move.

Moroccan website Le 360 reports that RS Berkane’s officials see the combination of experienced international players and the team’s expected participation in continental competitions as factors that could encourage Boufal to begin a new chapter in the Botola Pro.

The club are not relying solely on financial terms. Their intention is to present Boufal with a wider sporting plan, while highlighting the stability within the team and its ambitions both in Morocco and on the continental stage.

Boufal, 32, has built an extensive professional career across Europe and the Middle East. He received his football education at Angers, where he made a strong impression before moving to Southampton in 2016. That transfer marked his first experience in the Premier League.

After his spell in England, Boufal returned to France with Lille before later going back to Southampton. He subsequently moved to Spain, where he played for Celta Vigo.

The Morocco international also represented Al-Rayyan in Qatar and later had a spell with Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise. His career has therefore included experience in several European leagues as well as the Gulf region.

At international level, Boufal has been one of the most prominent players to represent Morocco in recent years. He was part of the Atlas Lions squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, contributing to a historic campaign that saw Morocco reach the semi-finals for the first time in the history of African football.

RS Berkane hope that his international pedigree, experience and ability in the final third would add considerable value to their team next season. The club view a return to Morocco as a sporting opportunity for Boufal, rather than simply a financial decision.

Negotiations remain open, with the next stage dependent on Boufal’s response and whether he can be persuaded to return to the professional Moroccan league with RS Berkane.
