Rodri completes landmark move to Barcelona from Manchester City
Barcelona have officially confirmed the signing of Spain midfielder Rodri from Manchester City in one of the biggest deals of the summer transfer window, with the 30-year-old agreeing a contract that runs until 30 June 2030.
The Catalan club announced on Tuesday that an agreement had been reached with Manchester City for the transfer of the midfielder.
“النادي يعلن توصله الى اتفاق مع مانشستر سيتي بشان التعاقد مع لاعب الوسط الاسباني رودري، بعقد يمتد حتى 30 يونيو 2030”.
Barcelona also published a message on social media alongside a video of their new signing: “The master of space and time touches down in Barcelona ⏱️”.
The announcement followed several days of negotiations between the two clubs, who had already reached a final agreement over the transfer. Manchester City accepted a package understood to be worth about 76.5m euros, comprising approximately 60m euros in guaranteed payments and achievable add-ons.
Rodri arrived in Barcelona on Monday to complete the final formalities of the move. Those included a medical examination and the signing of his new contract before the transfer was officially confirmed.
The Spain international spoke of his delight at beginning a new chapter with Barcelona.
“اللعب لبرشلونة حلم تحقق.. انا سعيد للغاية ومتحمس للعمل مع زملايي”.
Rodri has established himself as one of the leading midfielders in world football. He won the Ballon d’Or in 2024 and was named the best player at the 2026 World Cup after helping Spain win the tournament for the second time in their history.
His seven-season spell at Manchester City produced 12 major honours, including the Champions League and four Premier League titles. His departure represents a significant change for Pep Guardiola’s side, while Barcelona have secured a player with extensive experience at the highest level of domestic and international football.
At Barcelona, Rodri is expected to strengthen a midfield that includes Pedri, Gavi and Dani Olmo. The club are also preparing for the expected absence of Frenkie de Jong, who is likely to miss several months because of injury.
Barcelona hope Rodri’s arrival will provide an important boost as they attempt to defend their La Liga title and make a strong challenge for the Champions League. His ability to control the tempo of matches and provide defensive protection is expected to add further balance to the team.
The transfer is another major step in Barcelona’s summer recruitment campaign, which has also brought in other players. The club are continuing to develop an ambitious project under their current coaching staff, with Rodri now joining as one of the central figures in their plans for the seasons ahead.
