Real Madrid swap fanfare for intimate unveiling of summer recruits

Real Madrid will present their new signings at the club’s Valdebebas training complex this week, with the ceremony taking place in private and attended by president Florentino Perez and the players’ families.

The event will be held only a few days before the club begin their La Liga campaign against Espanyol, but the Spanish giants have decided against the traditional public unveiling that has been familiar to supporters in recent seasons.

Instead, the presentations will take place away from fans and the media, in what the club considers a more personal and family-oriented setting.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid have prepared a special programme to introduce their new arrivals before the season officially begins. None of the players signed during the summer transfer window has yet been presented in an official ceremony.

Real Madrid made six additions under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, although the expected presentation list includes Mourinho, Diomande, Cucurella, Konate, Dumfries, Espai and Bernardo Silva.

The format will differ from previous years in several important ways. Supporters will not be present, while the new arrivals are also not expected to hold news conferences after being introduced.

In past seasons, Real Madrid’s signings have typically been welcomed at events attended by large crowds, followed by extensive media conferences. This year’s approach will instead keep the occasion restricted to club officials, the players and their relatives.

The ceremony is being arranged as Real Madrid prepare for their opening league fixture, when they travel to face Espanyol on Saturday, 22 August. The match, which will be played in the second round of the competition, is scheduled to begin at 21:30.

The club hope the summer arrivals, together with Mourinho’s project, can help produce a change in direction after two seasons in which Real Madrid failed to achieve their objectives.

The new group will therefore be presented before the team formally begins its challenge for the season’s trophies. The coming days are expected to provide a clearer picture of the squad assembled by the club and the role its new signings will play.

For now, the focus will be on a ceremony designed to mark the next stage of the project without the usual public spectacle. While the absence of supporters and media conferences represents a departure from the club’s established presentation tradition, Real Madrid have chosen to give the event a more controlled and private character before their first competitive appearance of the campaign.
