Real Madrid push to seal Yan Diomande deal with RB Leipzig before Austria training camp

Real Madrid are stepping up efforts to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Yan Diomande and want an agreement in place before the German club travel to their pre-season training camp in Austria on Saturday, according to Sky Germany.

The Spanish club remain determined to bring in the Ivory Coast international this summer and have re-entered talks with Leipzig in a bid to break the deadlock over a fee.

Diomande is under contract with Leipzig until the summer of 2030, putting the Bundesliga side in a strong negotiating position as they hold out for what they consider his full value.

Madrid increase offer after initial bid rejected

Sky Germany reports that Real Madrid and Leipzig held a fresh round of negotiations on Thursday, with the European champions keen to accelerate discussions ahead of Leipzig’s departure for their training base.

Leipzig are said to have already rejected an initial Madrid offer worth €100m for the 21-year-old. In response, Real have raised their proposal to €100m plus a further €20m in bonuses linked to performance-related criteria.

Despite the increased bid, Leipzig are understood to be insisting on €130m to sanction the sale of a player they view as central to their long-term project, given the length of his current deal.

The same reports state that Diomande is behaving “professionally” during the negotiations and is waiting for the two clubs to reach a final agreement, without putting public pressure on Leipzig.

Record figures for Leipzig and Real Madrid

If Real Madrid and Leipzig do eventually agree a deal on the terms currently being discussed, Diomande would become the most expensive outgoing transfer in Leipzig’s history.

That record is currently held by Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol, who joined Manchester City for €90m ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The scale of the proposed transfer would also be highly significant for Real Madrid. Diomande would rank as the fourth most expensive signing in the club’s history, behind Jude Bellingham, Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale.

The potential move would cap a remarkable rise for Diomande, who has gone from relative obscurity to being discussed as one of the most valuable young players in Europe in the space of just two years.

Leipzig’s firm stance reflects both his contractual situation, with four years still remaining on his deal, and the impact he has made since breaking through at the Bundesliga club.

Real Madrid’s insistence on concluding the deal before Leipzig’s training camp underlines their desire to integrate Diomande into their preparations as early as possible, should a transfer be finalised.

Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days as the Spanish giants look to test Leipzig’s resolve and push one of this summer’s biggest potential transfers towards completion.
