Vincent Kompany is suffering from a viral infection and could miss Bayern Munich’s Champions League meeting with Arsenal on Wednesday, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.
The Bayern Munich manager was forced to leave the touchline during Saturday’s match against RB Leipzig after feeling unwell. He is also experiencing pain in the upper part of his leg.
Kompany hopes to recover in time to take charge of Bayern Munich in the third round of the Champions League league phase, when they face Arsenal on Wednesday.
There are also concerns over the availability of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for the fixture.
Bayern director Max Eberl told German newspaper Bild: “There was some fluid in Neuer’s foot, and the situation did not allow him to play against Leipzig.”
He added: “We will see whether the situation allows him to play on Wednesday against Arsenal.”
Bild reported that Bayern’s initial plan had been to rest Neuer for Saturday’s game against RB Leipzig so he could regain full fitness in time to face Arsenal.
However, the goalkeeper’s condition has now created further uncertainty over his involvement against the Gunners.
The report said that the accumulation of fluid in the foot is caused by tissue irritation resulting from excessive strain.
If Neuer does not return to full team training on Sunday, Jonas Urbig will replace him again on Wednesday.
