Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid have confirmed that defender Ferland Mendy has suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh.
The club’s medical team conducted tests on Thursday, revealing the injury to the biceps femoris muscle.
Mendy, who has Senegalese heritage, was substituted in the 83rd minute during Real Madrid’s Champions League round of 16 match against Atlético Madrid, with Fran García replacing him.
Real Madrid won the match on penalties following a 2-2 draw in extra time.
This season, the 29-year-old French defender has played 30 matches across all competitions, totaling 2,235 minutes and providing two assists.
This is Mendy’s third muscle injury of the season. He is expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks, which could allow him to return in time for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal, scheduled between April 8 and 16.
The club’s medical staff will continue to monitor Mendy’s progress and develop a treatment and rehabilitation plan to facilitate his return to full training.
