Rachid Taoussi appointed head coach of Tanzanian Club Azam
Rachid Taoussi has been announced as the new head coach of Tanzanian side Azam FC, marking a significant step in his coaching career. This move represents Taoussi’s third international coaching stint following previous roles in the United Arab Emirates and Algeria.
In an exclusive interview with Le Site Info, Taoussi revealed that his contract with Azam FC spans two seasons.
For the first season, the primary goal is to secure a high league position to ensure qualification for continental competitions in the subsequent season.
“The Tanzanian league has become more competitive, and clubs are now recruiting renowned coaches and players.
Azam’s team aspires to compete with Simba and Young Africans, and my mission will be to build a competitive team and finish the season in an honourable position,” Taoussi explained.
Taoussi’s appointment is accompanied by a Moroccan coaching staff. Idriss Ouajgu will serve as the physical trainer, Rachid Mekkaoui will take on the role of goalkeeper coach, and Badr El Idrissi will act as the assistant coach.
This team of professionals will support Taoussi as he aims to elevate Azam FC’s performance in the league.
Prior to this, Taoussi held notable positions in the UAE, including a stint with Al Ahli and as the sporting director of Al Ain between 2008 and 2010.
His coaching career also includes successful tenures with Chabab Belouizdad and FC Sétif from 2017 to 2019.
It is worth noting that Taoussi has been without a managerial role since his departure from Raja Casablanca in June 2022.
His return to coaching with Azam FC signals a new chapter in his career, as he looks to make a significant impact in Tanzanian football.
