Pyramids FC make it 11 wins in a row under Rulani Mokwena

Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC extended their winning run to 11 matches in all competitions with a 4-1 victory over El-Gaish in the Egyptian Premier League.

The result was Pyramids’ seventh consecutive league win and kept the 2025 CAF Super Cup winners at the top of the table.

They returned to domestic action after securing an away victory against South Sudan’s El Merriekh in the CAF Champions League, but showed no signs of fatigue as they quickly took control against El-Gaish.

Mohanad Lasheen opened the scoring in the sixth minute, registering his second goal of the season and taking his overall goal contribution to four.

Pyramids continued to apply pressure and doubled their advantage nine minutes later. Mostafa Ziko, who has been in impressive form, finished to make it 2-0 in the 15th minute.

The 2024/25 CAF Champions League winners appeared to be in command, but El-Gaish reduced the deficit before half-time. Ahmed Tarek scored in the 35th minute to make it 2-1.

The match retained its intensity after the interval, with Pyramids continuing to threaten as they searched for a third goal. Youssef Obama appeared to have restored their two-goal lead, but his effort was ruled out after a lengthy VAR review.

Pyramids eventually extended their advantage with 10 minutes of normal time remaining. Mahmoud Saber scored his second goal in four days to put Mokwena’s team 3-1 ahead.

Mahmoud Zalaka completed the scoring from the penalty spot in the 89th minute, securing a convincing victory for the league leaders.

The two-time Egyptian Cup winners now hold a five-point advantage over second-placed Al Ahly SC, although Al Ahly have played one match fewer.

Mokwena’s side will next turn their attention back to continental competition. They face El Merriekh in the second leg of their CAFCL second preliminary round tie on Saturday evening.
