Portugal stay perfect as Klopp claims first Germany win

Portugal moved six points clear at the top of their group with a third successive victory, while Jurgen Klopp finally recorded his first win as Germany head coach on the opening night of UEFA Nations League Matchday 3.

Portugal overcame Denmark 4-2 at Parken in a match that saw them take the lead three times before finally securing the points in the closing stages.

Joao Cancelo, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha and Joao Felix were on target for the visitors, who combined efficiency and composure with the resilience needed to withstand two Denmark comebacks.

The six-goal contest produced three goals during an action-packed 12-minute spell in the first half. Ramos played a part in both of Portugal’s goals before the interval, first setting up Cancelo to open the scoring and then converting Bruno Fernandes’ pass to put the reigning champions back in front.

Denmark had briefly levelled through Mikkel Damsgaard, who curled a finish into the far corner from a tight angle. The hosts struck again in the 53rd minute when Damsgaard threaded a superb pass through to Rasmus Højlund, who made it 2-2.

Portugal restored their advantage when Vitinha met Fernandes’ outstanding ball over the top with a header directed towards the near post. Felix then completed a swift counterattack to score his third goal of the campaign and confirm Portugal’s third win in as many matches.

Wirtz inspires Germany victory

Germany earned their first points of this year’s UEFA Nations League by beating Serbia 2-0 in Munich, giving Klopp victory in his third match in charge.

Florian Wirtz was central to the result, while Aleksandar Pavlovic, Nick Woltemade and Serge Gnabry also created promising opportunities for the DFB team.

Serbia threatened on the break, with Kosta Nedeljkovic coming within centimetres of sliding in to finish one attack. Germany eventually took a deserved lead after Wirtz had struck the post, with Tom Bischof finding the net.

Wirtz, described as the Liverpool playmaker in the source report, then settled the match after half-time with a clever drag-back before finishing accurately.

Netherlands fight back against Greece

The Netherlands recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Greece after substitute Tijjani Reijnders scored an 89th-minute equaliser.

Greece appeared on course for another notable victory following an impressive first half. Fotis Ioannidis opened the scoring and then created the second for Giorgos Masouras, who had come on early for the injured Christos Tzolis.

The Netherlands changed the momentum after the interval. Virgil van Dijk reduced the deficit with one of his trademark headers, before Reijnders completed the comeback with a late finish.
