Orlando Pirates make history after Kaizer Chiefs win

Orlando Pirates continued their remarkable run in South African football after extending their unbeaten streak in the Betway Premiership to 22 matches with a hard-fought victory over arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby.

The Buccaneers defeated Chiefs 2-1 on Sunday, November 1, to strengthen their impressive form under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and establish a new club record in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era.

According to football statistics platform OptaJabu, Orlando Pirates have now gone 22 consecutive league matches without defeat, recording 17 victories and five draws during that impressive period.

The achievement represents the longest unbeaten league run in the club’s history since the introduction of the PSL, further highlighting the remarkable consistency the Soweto giants have demonstrated in recent months.

Interestingly, the historic streak began with another emphatic victory over their fiercest rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, when Pirates secured a commanding 3-0 win in February 2026.

Their latest derby success has now extended that remarkable sequence to 22 matches, making the achievement even more significant given the rivalry between the two South African heavyweights.

Pirates’ impressive numbers extend beyond their unbeaten record, with Ouaddou’s men currently enjoying a seven-match winning streak in the domestic league.

The Buccaneers have also continued to dominate the Soweto Derby, winning six of their last seven meetings against Kaizer Chiefs, underlining their superiority in recent encounters between the traditional rivals.

Another notable achievement has been their outstanding home form, with the club maintaining a 100 percent winning record at home in the ongoing campaign.

Their consistency has translated into an impressive position on the league standings, with the derby victory temporarily sending Pirates to the top of the Betway Premiership table with 25 points.

However, their stay at the summit was short-lived after defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Durban City to reclaim first position.

Sundowns moved one point ahead of Pirates, although they have played one additional match.

Despite surrendering top spot, the Buccaneers will take considerable confidence from their historic unbeaten run and current winning momentum as they continue their pursuit of the Betway Premiership title.

With Ouaddou’s side combining defensive consistency with attacking efficiency, Pirates will be determined to maintain their impressive form and strengthen their position in the title race.
