Fans from Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire traveling to Philadelphia for the 2026 World Cup will receive a significant financial reprieve, as local organizers have committed to providing free transit following matchdays at Lincoln Financial Field.

This initiative, a collaboration with Airbnb, stands in stark contrast to the skyrocketing transport costs reported in other host cities like Boston and New York, where round-trip fares are expected to reach nearly $100 to $150.

The Philadelphia host committee confirmed that travel on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line will be free for all fans heading home from NRG Station starting from halftime until two hours after the final whistle.

While the inbound trip to the stadium remains at the standard $2.90 rate, the post-match waiver offers vital savings for the large West African diaspora expected to attend.

Côte d’Ivoire will be the first African side to benefit, playing their opening Group E match against Ecuador on June 14, 2026, followed by a second Philadelphia appearance against Curaçao on June 25.

Ghana’s Black Stars are also scheduled for a high-stakes Group L finale against Croatia on June 27, a match that could decide their progression to the knockout stages.

For supporters in Accra and Abidjan planning their trips, this “fan-friendly” policy makes Philadelphia one of the most accessible stops on the tournament circuit.

With SEPTA promising “Sports Express” trains every 10 minutes, the city is positioning itself as a welcoming hub for African football as the continent seeks to build on recent historic tournament successes.
