Paul Pogba’s Monaco contract set to be terminated after latest injury setback

AS Monaco are expected to end Paul Pogba’s contract early after the midfielder suffered another injury setback, according to a BBC report.

The former France international joined the Ligue 1 club on a free transfer in June 2025, signing a two-year agreement that was due to run until the end of the forthcoming season. However, discussions over an early departure are under way and are expected to be concluded soon.

Pogba’s first campaign with Monaco was affected by injury, although there had been optimism that he would be able to play more regularly this season. Instead, another setback has cast doubt over his future at the club, and the 32-year-old could be looking for a new team after only a year in the principality.

The midfielder had been absent from competitive football since September 2023, when he received a ban after failing a doping test while playing for Juventus. The test followed Juventus’ opening match of the 2023-24 season against Udinese on 20 August.

Pogba tested positive for DHEA, a prohibited substance that increases endogenous testosterone levels. His management team appealed against the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but the four-year suspension was upheld before subsequently being reduced to 18 months.

That ban ended in March last year, allowing Pogba to resume his professional career. He then joined Monaco as he attempted to rebuild his playing career following a lengthy period away from competitive football.

Pogba first established himself in senior football with Manchester United, making his professional debut for the club in 2011. He moved to Juventus in 2012 and became one of Europe’s leading midfielders during his first spell in Italy.

With Juventus, Pogba won four successive Serie A titles between 2013 and 2016. He returned to Manchester United in 2016 and spent six seasons with the English club.

Across his Manchester United career, he made 233 appearances, scored 39 goals and supplied 51 assists. He also helped the club win the UEFA Europa League and the English League Cup in 2017.

His return to Monaco was intended to provide an opportunity to play regularly again after his suspension and subsequent injury problems. However, the latest setback has left his two-year agreement in serious doubt, with the club now expected to bring the arrangement to an early end.
