Patrick Maswanganyi completes move from Orlando Pirates to Bahrain club

Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi has completed a transfer to Bahrain Premier League side Alkhaldiya Sports Club, bringing his time with the South African club to an end.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder leaves after establishing himself as a popular figure among Orlando Pirates supporters. The Buccaneers confirmed the agreement with Alkhaldiya Sports Club on their official website, saying the transfer followed discussions with Maswanganyi and his representatives.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Bahrain Premier League side Alkhaldiya Sports Club for the transfer of Patrick Maswanganyi,” the club confirmed on their website.

“The 28-year-old playmaker departs the Buccaneers having firmly established himself as a fan favourite during his time at the Club.

“Maswanganyi remained an important part of the technical team’s plans for the season. However, following discussions with the player and his representatives, he expressed a clear desire to pursue a new opportunity abroad.

“In recognition of his service to the Club and his ambitions for the next chapter of his career, Orlando Pirates agreed not to stand in his way. A transfer was subsequently concluded with Alkhaldiya Sports Club.

“‘Tito’ leaves having made a lasting impression both on and off the field. From his first appearance in the famous black and white jersey, he gave the Ghost countless moments to celebrate and represented this club with pride.

The club said Maswanganyi had remained part of the technical team’s plans for the season, but respected his wish to continue his career outside South Africa. That decision led to the agreement with Alkhaldiya Sports Club and allowed the player to pursue what Orlando Pirates described as a new opportunity abroad.

Maswanganyi departs with his reputation strengthened by his contribution on the pitch and his relationship with the supporters. Orlando Pirates said his influence extended beyond his performances, highlighting the impression he made during his time wearing the club’s black and white colours.
