Patrice Beaumelle blast referee for Champions League final setback

Patrice Beaumelle has been proposed as a candidate for the vacant Ghana national team head coach position as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) considers options to replace Carlos Queiroz.

The Black Stars are currently without a substantive head coach following the expiry of Queiroz’s short-term contract.

The experienced Portuguese coach was appointed on a four-month deal ahead of the 2026 Fifa World Cup after Otto Addo was dismissed in March.

While Desmond Ofei has emerged as one of the leading candidates for the position, Beaumelle is also understood to be among the coaches being considered for the role.

The Frenchman has considerable experience of African football, having previously managed the national teams of Ivory Coast, Zambia and Angola.

Beaumelle also worked as an assistant to Herve Renard with Ivory Coast and Zambia, giving him extensive knowledge of the African international game.

Ghana are expected to move quickly to appoint a new coach, with the Black Stars due to return to action next month for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The four-time African champions missed out on the 2025 AFCON in Morocco and will be hoping to avoid another setback in the qualification campaign for the next tournament.

Ghana have been drawn in Group C alongside West African rivals Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia.

With the qualifiers approaching, the GFA faces an increasingly important decision over who will take charge of the Black Stars as they begin preparations for another major international campaign.
