Paris St-Germain move for Zion Suzuki could pave way for Juventus loan

Paris St-Germain are closing in on a deal for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, a transfer that could leave Juventus hoping to sign the Japan international on loan.

According to reports from Tuttomercatoweb, Parma rejected an initial offer from the French champions worth €28m plus a further €5m in add-ons. However, the Italian club is expected to accept an improved proposal, with Paris St-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi preparing a package worth about €35m including bonuses.

Further discussions between the two clubs are expected to take place in the coming days as they work towards completing the transfer.

Suzuki had been Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti’s primary target for the position. His likely move to Paris means the Italian club’s remaining opportunity to sign him may depend on arranging a loan after his transfer to France has been completed.

Juventus are hoping Paris St-Germain will agree to such an arrangement, particularly because Suzuki is understood to have some doubts about the role he would be given in Luis Enrique’s squad. Those concerns could provide Juventus with one final route to secure the goalkeeper before the new season begins.

Suzuki is reportedly keen on joining Paris St-Germain, viewing the move as a significant step forward in his career. A switch to the French capital would also bring him closer to ending his time in Italian football.

The 24-year-old is Japan’s first-choice goalkeeper and has established himself in Serie A since joining Parma. He has made 57 appearances for the club, in addition to his international matches for Japan.

Suzuki’s contract with Parma runs until 2029. The club had been expecting offers close to €30m for the goalkeeper, but Paris St-Germain’s proposed package could take the overall value beyond that figure if the performance-related payments are met.

Paris St-Germain already have Matvei Safonov, who is regarded as their first-choice goalkeeper, while they also signed Lucas Chevalier earlier in the summer. That existing competition for places would create the possibility of Suzuki being loaned out immediately after joining the club.

Juventus are therefore monitoring the situation closely. Their preferred outcome would be to bring in Suzuki permanently, but with the goalkeeper now appearing increasingly likely to move to Paris St-Germain, a temporary deal could become the Turin club’s only realistic option.

The negotiations are expected to develop over the next few days, with Parma considering an improved Paris St-Germain bid and Juventus waiting to discover whether the French club would be willing to send Suzuki out on loan.
