Orlando Pirates pocket R20 million

Orlando Pirates have officially ended their 14-year wait for PSL glory after being crowned 2025/26 Betway Premiership champions, sealing the title with a decisive 2-0 victory over Orbit College on Saturday afternoon.

The win confirmed a famous season for the Soweto giants, who held their nerve on the final day to edge out Mamelodi Sundowns and finally reclaim the league crown for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign.

As a result of their triumph, the Buccaneers will also pocket a significant financial reward, with the league champions set to receive around R20 million in prize money for winning the title.

That financial boost crowns a season of success for Pirates, who delivered when it mattered most in a tense title race that went down to the final round of fixtures.

The victory over Orbit College not only secured silverware but also restored Pirates to the top of South African football after years of rebuilding and near misses in previous campaigns.

While celebrations erupted among players and supporters, the result also confirmed relegation heartbreak for Orbit College, who will drop out of the top flight after just one season and be replaced by Kruger United next season.

Pirates’ title charge was defined by consistency and big performances in crucial moments, allowing them to finally break Sundowns’ long-standing dominance and re-establish themselves as champions of the country.

With the league trophy secured and R20 million added to the club’s coffers, Orlando Pirates’ triumph marks one of the most significant achievements in their recent history.
