On Sport wins exclusive digital rights to Al Ahly’s Barcelona friendly

Egyptian broadcaster On Sport has secured the exclusive rights to show Al Ahly’s friendly against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on Wednesday, 19 August.

The match will be played at Spotify Camp Nou and will be available exclusively through the On Sport app, the network announced on Tuesday.

The fixture is part of both clubs’ preparations for the 2026-27 season, with Al Ahly using the game as the final match of a training camp in Spain.

Al Ahly’s camp will run until 20 August, and their meeting with Barcelona will bring the Egyptian club’s preparations to a close. Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champions, will face their visitors in the traditional fixture held before the start of the new season.

On Sport’s announcement provides a new broadcast option for supporters following the contest. The Sharjah television channel in the United Arab Emirates had previously announced that it had obtained the rights to show the friendly.

The match will carry particular significance for Al Ahly because it will become the first occasion on which an Arab and African club has faced Barcelona in the club’s customary pre-season fixture.

That match is named after Joan Gamper, Barcelona’s historic president. The annual meeting forms part of the Catalan club’s preparations for the campaign ahead, while this year’s fixture will also give Al Ahly an opportunity to test themselves against one of Europe’s leading sides.

The encounter at Spotify Camp Nou will therefore serve two purposes: it will complete Al Ahly’s Spanish training camp and provide Barcelona with another fixture before the start of the 2026-27 season.

For viewers in the region, coverage will be carried exclusively on the On Sport app, following the broadcaster’s acquisition of the rights. The announcement comes after Sharjah had earlier revealed its own agreement to broadcast the game, underlining the interest surrounding the meeting between the Egyptian and Spanish giants.

Al Ahly will remain in Spain through 20 August, with the Barcelona fixture scheduled as the final event of the camp. The match is set to bring together the champions of Egypt and La Liga in one of the most notable pre-season games involving an Arab or African club this summer.
